How is Eczema Triggered?

Around the world people are suffering from Eczema but no one really understands the reason that triggers this disease. There are many speculations regarding this matter but none has been proven yet. These reasons can be anything from irritants and detergents to food items. Most of the researchers believe that eczema flares-up due to irritants.

Given below are some of the reasons in detail:

  1. One of the major causes of eczema is the dryness of skin. There are many things in our daily life, like soap and bubble bath that we use frequently but when we use it they cause dryness to the skin. This makes the skin sensitive and leads to the itching of the skin. This makes it much easier for our skin to be a target of eczema. Try to avoid using soaps and bubble baths as much as possible instead use emollients. Emollients are the recommended alternative for those who are suffering from eczema.
  2. When you are going to use detergent then do not forget to wear gloves. This will protect your skin from the dryness caused by using detergent. If your skin is well protected against skin dryness from detergent then you might stay protected from eczema. Also, make sure that you have rinsed your clothes properly because if there is even slightest detergent left in your clothes then eczema might flare up.
  3. Another thing that you must avoid at all cost is the perfumes and toiletries that do not suit your skin. There are many cases where the usage of perfumes and makeup has flared up eczema. The only reason for eczema in this case is that the makeup and the perfumes they used irritated their skin and thus they suffered from eczema.
  4. The material from which the cloth you wear is made is also an important factor. Wool has proven to be one of those materials that causes eczema so those who are allergic to using woolen cloths should try to use cotton made cloths. You can also use any material that is smooth like cotton as long as it is not made from wool.
  5. Humidity is one of the factors that flare up eczema so try to avoid it as much as possible. The temperature also plays an important role therefore those who suffer from eczema should avoid too much heat as well as too much cold.
  6. Some food like milk, soya, nuts and fish are also known to have triggered eczema in some cases however it is not necessary that this might also be the case for you.

Although the above stated factors can flare up eczema but it only gets worse due to scratching. If you are suffering from eczema then you might experience that your skin irritates a lot more then normal. This leads to the need of scratching but it must be avoided at all cost since it will only make your problem take the turn for the worse. Some people even develop the habit of scratching it out of tension.
